Nestled in the serene Darjeeling hills, Risheehat Tea Estate carries a rich legacy dating back to the mid-19th century, when it was established by British planters. Originally named Tshering Bagan after the local Tshering tribe, the estate was later renamed Risheehat, meaning “Home of Holy Saints”—a name inspired by a group of meditators who once sought refuge in its tranquil surroundings. 

Spread across steep slopes at an average elevation of 4,500 feet, Risheehat offers breathtaking vistas of the mighty Himalayas. Its unique microclimate, fertile soil, and ideal rainfall nurture some of Darjeeling’s finest organic teas.

Divided into two key sections—Risheehat and Liza Hill—the estate is a pioneer in organic and Fair-Trade-certified tea cultivation. The compact 141-hectare plantation, predominantly east-facing, thrives amidst lush biodiversity, where rare fruit and spice trees enrich the terroir’s distinctiveness. Despite its steep terrain, Risheehat has successfully balanced both quality and production volume through sustainable farming practices, setting a benchmark for organic tea cultivation in Darjeeling.
